Leo Duarte Oboe
Leo has been a member of the OAE since 2018, is Principal Oboe of the Academy of Ancient Music, and appears regularly as a guest with many of the UK’s historically informed ensembles. As a chamber musician and concerto soloist, he has performed at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and live on BBC Radio 3. He studied Baroque oboe with Katharina Spreckelsen at the Royal Academy of Music where he has since gone on to give masterclasses to modern oboists in matters of historical style.
Leo is also Artistic Director of Opera Settecento with whom he has conducted many critically acclaimed performances, including the modern-day premières of Hasse’s Demetrio and several of Handel’s pasticcio operas. His love of old manuscripts has led him to make numerous performing editions of eighteenth-century works including a highly-praised new critical edition of Handel’s Brockes Passion.
