Aci, Galatea e Polifemo at Valletta Baroque Festival
Handel’s tragic tale of two lovers who are being kept apart as servants by a villainous cyclops creature. With its thrilling and varied scoring, the music excites a sense of both determination and helplessness in confronting the natural world. As Handel’s music so often does, this piece challenges our understanding of order and fairness and delivers us to a supernatural world of poetic possibilities.
The performance will be directed by Steven Devine with Julia Doyle (soprano) as Aci, Bethany Horak-Hallett (mezzo) as Galatea and Trevor Eliot Bowes (bass) as Polifemo.
We’re delighted to be bringing Aci, Galatea e Polifemo to the Valletta Baroque Festival following last year’s postponement due to Covid.
